A love-bite is a temporary bruise or mark caused by kissing, sucking or biting the skin forcefully enough to burst blood vessels beneath the skin.
Love-bites typically last from four to twelve days and may be treated in the same way as other bruises.
The terms hickey (hicky, or hickie) or shagger is often applied to a love-bite on the neck area.
Love-bites can be a purple-like color similar to other types of Contusions,or a cluster of red speckles.
Many people have said that a way to help the love-bite heal is to put a block of ice on the affected area, although this will only help if the love-bites are quite new and have only been there for under 10 minutes. Covering up with blusher or concealer works if one wishes to keep them secret.
